People in France now spend over 1,000 hours a year online
Médiamétrie measured more than three hours online per day in 2025, a record, with mobile accounting for 80% of that time. Over a year, that is more than 1,095 hours, most of them on a phone.
Time online in France keeps rising. According to Médiamétrie, it passed three hours a day in 2025.
What Médiamétrie measured
- More than 3 hours a day online on average, a record. Trade press reporting the presentation gives 3 h 01, up from 2 h 40 in 2024.
- Nearly 5 hours for 15 to 24-year-olds.
- 48.6 million people online every day.
- 80% of time online spent on mobile.
Over a year
At three hours a day, that is 1,095 hours a year, of which 876 are on a phone. A business open 9 to 5 on weekdays is open 2,016 hours in 2026: its visitors’ time online adds up to more than half of that. Médiamétrie does not say at what time of day people are online, so check your own analytics to see how much of your traffic arrives after hours.
What to take from it
- Design for the phone first: that is where most of the time is spent.
- Expect questions outside your hours and give visitors a way to get an answer then.
- Keep it short: on a phone, a question in a chat is easier than a long form.
