ALYOR: the chat takes over from the call button when the office is closed

ALYOR is a wealth advisory firm serving the self-employed: retirement, savings, health cover and income protection. Its website, alyor.fr, has 22 pages: the home page, product pages, articles, and contact and legal pages.

One line, on every page

The site is built from separate HTML pages with no shared template. Javo’s tag was therefore added just before the end of the page body on each of the 22 pages, once per page, and checked page by page.

On mobile, three buttons were one too many

On phones, alyor.fr shows a fixed contact bar at the bottom of the screen: a main button such as “Être rappelé” (request a call back) and a call button. The chat bubble, placed by default in the bottom-right corner, sat on top of the call button. Even once moved, it made three options for the same intention: talking to someone.

The rule: call during opening hours, chat outside them

• During opening hours, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, the bar offers the main button and the call button. The chat bubble is hidden on mobile.
• Outside them, in the evening, at weekends and on public holidays, the chat takes the exact place of the call button in the bar.
• If the chat does not load, the call button stays: visitors always have a way to get in touch.

The switch follows Paris time, wherever the visitor is, and takes moveable public holidays such as Easter Monday and Ascension Day into account.

A chat that does not hide the page

On phones, the chat opens in a floating window with rounded corners rather than full screen. The page stays visible around it, and the contact bar stays usable underneath.

What to take away for your site

• Group your contact options in one place rather than adding one more bubble.
• Offer the channel that works right now: the phone when someone will pick up, the chat otherwise.
• Always plan a fallback in case an external tool does not load.
