People in France make 16% fewer phone calls than in 2021
Voice traffic in France fell to 214.4 billion minutes in 2025, down from 256.5 billion in 2021. Landline calls have more than halved. The phone is no longer the obvious way to get in touch.
For a long time, “call us” was the default way for a business to be reached. Arcep’s figures show the French are using that channel less and less.

Voice traffic has been falling since 2014. In 2025 it dropped 3.6% in a year. SMS fell even faster, down 26.9% in one year to 64.7 billion messages.
Where the conversations went
Traditional calls and SMS are giving way to messaging apps and written exchanges. People are used to typing a question and getting a reply, rather than calling and waiting for someone to pick up.
