Visibility

One French small business in three still has no website

65% of French very small and small businesses have a website, and for the first time social media accounts are ahead. What the other 35% miss, and what a website should do for those who have one.

Every year, the France Num barometer asks French very small and small businesses how they use digital tools. The 2025 edition has a surprise.

What the barometer found

  • 65% have a website presenting the business, unchanged over a year.
  • 66% have a social media account: for the first time, more than have a website.
  • 84% have at least one online visibility tool.
  • 26% use artificial intelligence, twice as many as in 2024, and 14% use a chatbot, assistant or AI search tool.

Why a website still matters

A social media page is rented space: the platform decides who sees it, how it looks and what happens to your contacts. A website is yours. It is also what search engines and AI assistants read when someone asks who can help them.

A website that works for you

  • Say clearly what you do, where and for whom, on the first screen.
  • Show how to reach you and when you answer.
  • Collect enquiries at any hour: a form, or a chat that answers questions and takes contact details.
