7 Chatbase alternatives for website AI agents in 2026

Compare Javo and six Chatbase alternatives. See the Hobby-plus-branding calculation and choose between self-service and managed setup.

Chatbase is a candidate when you want to work directly on an AI agent’s configuration. The question is whether your team wants to own that work, and whether the selected plan fits the way visitors will use it.

A managed implementation is a different buying choice. Javo belongs on the shortlist when you would rather have someone configure the website agent around your offer and enquiry process. That does not make every software subscription unnecessary or every managed service cheaper.

About this comparison: Javo publishes this article and is one of the products listed. Placement reflects our focus on website enquiries, not an independent performance ranking. We reviewed public vendor pages on 27 September 2026; we did not run a head-to-head product benchmark. Prices below are in USD unless marked €. Billing units differ.

When Chatbase may already fit

Keep it in the comparison when someone on your team is comfortable maintaining the content and settings. Review the model access, allowance and integrations of the actual plan you would buy. Do not decide from an old pricing screenshot: the official page is the reference used here.

Seven alternatives, depending on the job

1. Javo

Consider Javo when you want website installation and business configuration included in a scoped implementation rather than assembling the setup yourself. Official details.

2. Botpress

Consider Botpress when the requirement calls for more custom workflow building; also compare its managed delivery option. Official details.

3. Tidio Lyro

Consider Tidio when human chat and a shared support workflow need to sit alongside the AI agent. Official details.

4. Intercom Fin

Consider Intercom when you are buying customer support infrastructure as well as the answering agent. Official details.

5. HubSpot Breeze Customer Agent

Consider HubSpot when your eligible CRM environment already provides the customer context and follow-up ownership you need. Official details.

6. Zendesk AI agents

Consider Zendesk when the conversation needs to become part of a structured ticket-handling operation. Official details.

7. Ada

Consider Ada when the deployment belongs to a larger enterprise customer-service programme across channels. Official details.

Budget for the agent you intend to deploy

The $139 example is relevant only when the Hobby buyer wants to remove Chatbase branding. A buyer comfortable with the branding should not add that cost. Other buyers may need a different plan for its capabilities, making the Hobby comparison irrelevant.

The current Hobby allowance is 700 message credits per month. Credits are not a promised number of visitors or successful outcomes. Test the model and conversation pattern you will actually deploy, then inspect consumption. Do not claim 700 credits means 700 fully handled customer enquiries.

Make content maintenance part of the trial

Start with an approved service page and deliberately change one fact during the trial, such as a published opening time in your test material. Check when the agent’s answer reflects the change. Record who made the update and how the team verified it.

Then test a question the material does not answer. The useful result may be a refusal and a callback request rather than a fluent guess. Include that case in a Javo demonstration too. A managed setup still needs a named person at your business to approve facts.

Is Javo always less expensive than Chatbase?

No. Javo costs €600 per month per product. Compare that with the Chatbase plan and add-ons you need, including usage allowances and who handles setup and maintenance.

Which is the better choice for a solo founder?

Decide whether you want to maintain the agent yourself. Compare a real task in each route and include your time in the decision. Ask the managed provider what it changes after launch, not just what it installs on day one.
